Praised as being “excellent in every way” by the Chicago Classical Review, violinist Julia Dina enjoys an active performance and teaching career in Huntsville, Alabama. She joined the Huntsville Symphony Orchestra as Concertmaster in July 2018. Having started violin at the age of two, Julia began her studies with her father, and then went on to study extensively at the Merit School of Music, where she won numerous awards and scholarships. Julia made her orchestral debut at the age of five, and went on to solo with the Skokie Valley Symphony Orchestra and Chicago Businessman’s Orchestra. Her solo and chamber performances have been featured locally on Chicago WFMT’s radio program “Introductions”, as well as nationally on WFMT’s “From the Top”. She was also a laureate in Yale’s Woolsey Competition, during which time she played professionally with the New Haven Symphony Orchestra. Julia holds a Certificate in Performance from Yale University, where she studied with Hyo Kang. Some of the teachers that have had the biggest impact on her career are Ilya Kaler, Shmuel Ashkenasi, Guillaume Combet, and Aurelien Pederzoli. Julia started teaching privately at the age of 16. Since then, she has taught at numerous public schools, served as a Teaching Artist through Yale University, and has worked with students of all ages and experience. She believes in a conservatory style approach to teaching, with emphasis on technique and performance. Julia currently plays on a 2013 Joseph Curtin violin.
