Lessons & Coaching

With 15+ years of teaching experience, I’ve worked with students of all ages and backgrounds—from young beginners to retirees, hobbyists to serious competitors. No matter the learning style or needs, lessons are always adapted to help each student succeed in their own way. Through personalized guidance, I’ve helped musicians navigate auditions and competitions from both sides of the panel. With 25+ years of classical training and a decade of improvising across all genres, I know what it takes to reach your goals—and together, we’ll get there.

"My son has been taking violin for 6 years, from top teachers and music schools, and Julia is the best teacher he has had. He advances quickly because she is both a brilliant musician and gifted at teaching. She adjusts her style to the student--and as a result my son's passion for the violin as at an all time high!!"

- Heather B.

"Julia has gotten our kids interested in violin again! She is prompt, a great communicator, knowledgeable and KIND!!"

- Jennifer A.

"I have taken violin lessons with Julia for a year now and am overjoyed with our progress. Not only does she guide you through proper violin technique, but she also dives into a deeper understanding of musicality and performance. She has helped me avoid playing injuries, conquer stage fright, and structure the most productive practice for maximum results. We have our lessons online, and through the screen, she notices every small detail. While I have been working as a full-time musician for the past 10-plus years, I always seek to improve my craft. Both audience members and my fellow musicians have noticed a great increase in my abilities since having studied with Julia. I have had multiple teachers throughout my career including a music degree from a prestigious music school. Reflecting on all of my experiences, I can confidently say Julia is the best violin teacher I have ever had. I trust her to continue to guide my growth in music."
- Jo Cleary (@JoPlaysViolin)

"I would recommend Julia as an instructor for any student who wants to learn - from the youngest beginner to the advanced student. She is willing to adapt her lesson approach to the goals of the individual student... her advanced music education and many years of experience with learning the violin and performing is invaluable."- Cathy S.

Intro to Violin

Have you been wanting to start violin but don't know where to begin, who to trust, or whether you'll even stick with it?

Maybe you're in a group class but feel like you're falling through the cracks. Maybe you don't want to commit to private lessons just yet. Or maybe you're an independent learner - you don't need hand-holding, but YouTube isn't cutting it and you need real, structured guidance.

Intro to Violin is a comprehensive beginner course that walks you through everything - from sourcing your first instrument to playing recognizable songs with solid technique.

With 20+ hours of on-demand video (a $2,000 value if taught live), this course is designed to save you time, frustration, and money on trial-and-error learning.

By the end, you'll either be ready to take the next step- or realize violin isn't for you before sinking hundreds of dollars into months of lessons. And if you want to keep going? I'll guide you toward a teacher, ongoing lessons, or my next course: The Principles of Musical Freedom.

The Principles of Musical Freedom

The Principles of Musical Freedom is built around the idea that great tone, style, and expression aren't some mysterious talent you're either born with or not. They're built on clear technique - and anyone can develop them.

Over years of streaming and performing live, I've been asked the same questions again and again by parents, adult learners, and fellow musicians:

"How do I get that tone?"

"How do you make it look so easy?"

This course is my answer.

I spent years sounding robotic - technically adequate, but lacking personality. These are the missing pieces that helped me break through: how to sound magical, how to captivate an audience, how to add that sparkle.

It breaks down the tools I use in my own playing - how to build them, and how to apply them - so you can unlock your own sound. Whether you're just starting out or you're a working professional, this course is designed to close the gap between what you hear in your head and what actually comes out of your instrument.

As someone who's sat on audition panels for orchestras and competitions, I've seen how these tools elevate a performance from competent to unforgettable. If you want to sound more like you - this is where to start.
